SHR technology – Super Hair Removal

SHR stands for Super Hair Removal. In contrast to IPL, SHR works in motion over the skin. The area is not treated with individual xenon light pulses overlapping step-by-step as in the conventional IPL procedure, but is covered several times with even stroking movements of the handpiece while various light pulses are emitted into the skin.

Unlike IPL, the SHR method does not target the hair root, but the stem cell anchored in the middle depth of the hair shaft. The stem cells are responsible for controlling hair growth by migrating to the follicle during the hair growth cycle, docking to the matrix cells there and giving the command to produce new hair. If the stem cell is heated to 40-45°C over a longer period of time, the stem cell protein denatures and is irreversibly damaged. No new hair can be produced.

As this system accesses the stem cell, which is located further up the hair shaft, there is greater independence from hair growth phases. Accordingly, treatment can be carried out every four weeks. As a rule, 6-10 treatments are necessary for a lasting result.

As significantly less energy is required than with the IPL procedure, the treatment is painless and the customer only feels a heat development in the skin. In addition, the melanin content of the dermis or hair plays a subordinate role in this procedure, making it possible to treat dark skin types or remove light-colored and fine hair.
